Mývatn

I was inspired by the beautiful volcanic lake Mývatn, in Northern Iceland for this piece. Called 'The lake of flies (with good reason!) the warmth of the earth beneath creates the extensive growth of algaes & lichens, thus the rich green colours. I love the depth and sumptuous richness of the several layers of resin, mica & lava chips and pigments with various shades of deep rich greens & blacks, reminiscent of the area and lake. The lava effect 'islands' are layers of plaster and painted black with holographic black glitters and edged with gold. I have poured the layers of resin around the landscape to create the waters of the lake.
